Frequently Asked Questions
How are the days counted in the countdown?
The countdown counts the number of calendar days from today (or your custom start date) up to and including the target date. For example if today is March 18 and your event is March 20 the calculator shows 2 days — March 19 and March 20. The calculation uses ceiling rounding to include partial days so the countdown feels natural and consistent with how most people intuitively count days until an event.
What is the difference between total days and working days?
Total days include every calendar day — weekdays and weekends. Working days count only Monday through Friday excluding Saturdays and Sundays. For planning purposes working days are useful for business deadlines project timelines and school days. Total days are more relevant for personal countdowns like days until a birthday or vacation. Public holidays are not excluded from working days as these vary by country.
When does Thanksgiving fall each year?
In the United States Thanksgiving is observed on the fourth Thursday of November each year. This means the date changes every year between November 22 and November 28. In 2026 Thanksgiving falls on November 26. In Canada Thanksgiving is observed on the second Monday of October which is a different date entirely.
Can I use this calculator for past dates?
This calculator is designed for future countdowns. If you enter a date that has already passed the calculator will show an alert. To calculate how many days have passed since a past event use the Date Difference Calculator which calculates the difference between any two dates including past dates.
How do I count down to a recurring annual event?
For recurring events like birthdays or anniversaries the calculator automatically sets holiday presets to the next upcoming occurrence. For your own recurring events simply enter the next upcoming date. If the event has already passed this year enter next year's date. The working days and total days countdown updates in real time each time you use the calculator.
